Hongkou is the oldest active fire station in China but the average age of the firefighters is only 23. Jiang Yunfei is the head of the facility. The new recruits are arriving and for the next 8 months we follow them on their journey. Today, an experienced driver took a wrong turn on the way to a rescue and Jiang is not happy. Wang is preparing for an exam for the prestigious China Fire and Rescue Institute and Qin Lingjing pays a visit to his girlfriend for her birthday.
The station has a new captain, Gao Qingjie. He is demanding when it comes to training, as he knows lives depend on it. Huang Hao uses his calm voice to reassure a girl who is threatening to jump from a bridge but soon it will be his last day with the service. Gao gets some unexpected news about his heart and the team is called to a burning building to save lives. All in a day's work for Shanghai's fire service and our new recruits.
Captain Gao has a potentially serious heart condition and Wang Dajing starts his 30-day study at the Shanghai Firefighting Training Base. Jiang and his team rescue 6 trapped residents from a burning building in Hongkou. Gao’s medical check turn out to be good and his wife and son come to visit him after he returns from hospital. Dajing will have to wait to see if he has passed his exam and it’s time for Huang Hao to wave goodbye to his crew mates.
Chinese New Year is just days away and Hongkou Fire Station is decorated with lanterns but spirits are down. Captain Jiang learns Hongkou has not made it into this year's top 10 rankings. The crew are called to an electrical fire and Xiazi has good news, his wife is expecting a child. Qin Lingjing must make a tough choice about his own future. As the firefighters celebrate, Zhou Lidong gets a Valentine's present from his girlfriend.
Now that the Chinese New Year celebrations are over, it will soon be time for the annual Spring Games. This is high on the agenda for every station as scores will go towards the annual assessment. For Hongkou, if they want to get back in the top 10, they must do well. Wu Aifan is taking the lead in training but nothing overrides the sounds of the fire alarm. Two new team members are put to the test on their first rescue and a firefighter is injured in the line of duty.
Wang Hao is appointed first firefighter in the leading engine. Now he has more responsibility and new things to learn. Gao is watching how the promotion goes. An electrical car catches fire after the battery overheats. Gao and his team put out the fire before the car explodes. At the Spring Games, Wang Hao gets second place for rope climbing, improving the station rating to third place. A firefighters girlfriend arrives with a birthday gift.
Two new recruits are struggling to keep up during training. Xiazi tries to help them after coming back from a rescue this morning, Dajing is packing and preparing for the institute admission exam. This is his last chance. A fire broke out a chemical workshop. Two firefighters die on the way to rescue trapped people, one of them is Gao’s old university friend. Instructor Zhang Yijie is encouraging the crew and Xiazi is spending time with his wife.
Qin Lingjing has a tough decision to make after 5 years of service, to stay or to leave? He has still not made up his mind. Yichang Fire Station has a five-kilo race to pass if rankings are to improve. Gao as captain is training hard to set an example for others but fires are never far away. QIN Lingjing’s wife comes to visit and may help decide his future. Xiazi is stressed for his wife is admitted to hospital and may give birth any minute.
